1. Schiit Modi 2 that I have tested is horribly designed. It is sensitive to both USB power and data noise. Even a cheaper DAC like Behringer shows that such sensitivity is due to poor DAC design than anything to do with USB cables. The Behringer performance is better than Schiit with any cable and shows no need for tweaking the USB cable. 2.
Minor differences in cable quality are not going to have any impact at all other than latency. Latency is simply the delay in how long it takes to get to point a to point b and won't impact the sound quality significantly. USB is a digital signal, so a "premium" USB cable is a load of crap. There is no real difference between a well made $2 USB
With respect to USB cable, in short lengths that you use for computer audio, you are way into safe region of operation, i.e. analog values are 100% reliably translated into digital states of 0 and 1. If you make the cable long though, then you can lose this fidelity. When there, you will hear clear static, device not working, muting, etc.

Objective data is only ONE element but hearing is the ultimate test and should always be the determining factor. Studios do NOT rely only on "specs" they chose by listening as their final determination in making a purchase. It's like saying all USB cables are the same or A/C cables etc,. Try them - blind is good and you know they're not all the
It does NOT have to be audiophile quality to make a difference. I am forced to use a 25ft long usb Cable to reach From my tablet to my DAC. I had a simple amazon usb cable i have been using for over a year. It slowly developed noise to the point when i swiped on my screen i could hear the noise in my speakers. I purchased a replacement cable
This absorption re-aligned the dilithium crystals in uniform order. As a side effect, the display of the battery charger appeared brighter and sharper. Cable engineers testing the sonic effect of dilithium crystals in the wire structure. Note the audiophile’s adaptive ears vs. the skeptic’s critical face.
I bought two Audioquest USB cables because that is what Audirvana support suggested. They said Audirvana can't play DSD 256 because my USB cables are not good enough. Those Audioquest cables didn't make any difference. Zero ! And they don't sound any better than generic USB cables that were supplied with my DACs.
